 Position: Merchandiser

Job Purpose
To drive Departmental and Company performance, by planning, managing and optimizing sales, stock, markdown and profit.
Principal Responsibilities
1. To be pivotal in driving Department strategy with the Buyer - Planning, managing and achieving the targeted measures of Sales, Markdown and Profit (Dept. KPI’s)
2. To manage the in-season Open-to-Buy, down to category level using the seasonal WSSI and key line information.
3. By effective Range Planning and Markdown control, manage Terminal Stocks to keep within budgeted levels.
4. Consistently manage the supply base, monitoring Commitment and Intake, and to work closely with the supplier to minimize lead times, create flexibility and improve availability.
5. To train, motivate and develop the Assistant Merchandiser(s).
6. Create ad hoc data libraries as reference for future planning.

Key Objectives:
1. Mannage OTB and intake so as to maintain stock levels by Department and Category in line with monthly Closing Stock targets as defined on WSSIs.

Measure: Achieved Stock Turn -v- Budgeted Stock Turn
2. Improve accuracy of both sales and intake forecasts.

Measure: Average Weekly Variance to Merch.Plan Forecasts (Tolerance +/– 5%)
3. a). Liaise with the Stock Distribution Manager to improve, the accuracy of allocation and replenishment.

Measure: Improvement in Store Stock Covers and size/colour availability
b) Improve New Store range availability
Measure: 95% Availability of Planned Opening Range
4. With Buyer, provide monthly competition reports supported by price benchmarking matrix. To be reviewed formally each quarter.


5. Monitor line level performance to identify opportunities and areas of concern. Recommend actions as a result.
6. With buyer prepare and manage weekly trading meetings – detailed KPI review, best and worst & feedback action points to line manager.

7. Maintain and develop an assertive, dynamic culture in the team, with particular emphasis on the role of Assistant Merchandiser.

8. Undertake branch visits during the year to ensure awareness of our business, market and competition.

Measure: A minimum of 15 branch visit reports to be submitted. Plus an additional 5 ‘S’ Grade stores should be visited at least twice.

4. Security
 To inform of any breaches of security procedures and other internal problems that may result in a loss to the Company.
 To maintain confidentiality relating to information received within the department in the course of your duties
5. Personal Training & Development
 To demonstrate the ability to evaluate, take accountability and to develop one’s own performance.

Personal Profile:
 University Graduate.
 Minimum 5Yrs retail merchandising experience.
 Strong numerical skills, excellent organizational and analytical skills and an attention to detail.
 Excellent excel skills.
 Should be able to communicate concisely, with clarity and be assertive.
 Experience trading a department.
