Job Purpose
Manage Category by selecting, pricing and positioning of products within a designated
category.
Work with Category Manager in developing category plan and strategies to improve product
sales.
To negotiate best purchasing terms with local suppliers (incl. rebates & promotions)
Sales, Margin and Budgeting
Assist in budget development and expense management programs.
Assist and drive the annual business plan (ABP) for each product line in consultation with
Department Heads to achieve budgeted goals in revenue, sales & margin
Role, Accountabilities & Capabilities
Develop and deliver a category sales plan that meets agreed sales, margin, profit as well as
stock turn targets
Conduct business review with vendors to achieve mutual profitable goals.
Buying and Sourcing
Maintain a level of product expertise, ensuring product is bought within acceptable standard
norms of quality and as per specifications
Responsible for assortment planning and buying products with best commercial value
(considering marketability, demand, availability, quality, packaging, standards, etc.)
maintaining the product price line
Responsible for creating right merchandize structure as per family and sub familyDevelop assortment plans and buying strategies at Supermarket/Department level with Dept.
Heads & Store Managers and deliver on the same to optimize sales & customer satisfaction
Identify new means to promote certain categories
Negotiate best buying prices with suppliers and obtain maximum possible discounts while
managing store purchases to optimize rebate earnings
Build on buying power of the country to generate additional revenues for the stores
Co-ordinate with IT to control the database (GOLD) - update system price list, new item
creation, product description, barcode creation, cost price, and data clearing
Oversee full logistics cycle form order placement to in-store receiving of merchandise
Communicate information about new products and changes to relevant teams within the
company.
New Store Openings
Process purchase orders, resolve invoicing issues and ensure timely merchandise delivery
Responsible for planning and delivering merchandise to new stores considering catchment
area, demographics, lifestyle analysis, etc.
Establish assortment/range plan in conjunction with Store Manager
Create supplier base, planograms, price list, promotional plan etc.
Negotiate opening fees with suppliers
Stock Movement
Perform inventory and supply chain management to achieve inventory turnover goals and
maximize sales.
Ensure proper receipt flow and inventory position on key/basic/must have/mandatory range
products and react to changes in demand
Ensure that stock levels are under control & match the requirements and demand to ensure
fewer markdowns
Participate in regular reviews of budgets/ forecasts and plan for rationalizing of stock
Display and Standards
Design and implement planograms for the category in charge across all stores
Responsible for making display standards respected through establishing guide books, coaching
and guiding Section Managers as well as Store Managers
Promotions
Plan yearly promotional calendar along with the Dept. Heads /Operation Managers
Supermarket/ Store Managers to optimize sales and reduce inventory risk
Select promotional items to optimize space/floor returns and sales with support of Dept. Heads
/ Store Managers
Negotiate with suppliers & ensure stock availability at the time of promotion
Arrange for product catalogue shoots as per promotional calendar
Plan adhoc promotions along with Dept. Heads/ Operation Managers Supermarket to meet
sales targets, optimize inventory /stock levels
Review Analysis and Feedback
Review and Analyze feedback from stores on suppliers, quality of products, price changes,
promotions and plan actions in accordance to optimize sales
Conduct frequent visits to all stores and meet Section Managers & Department Heads in order
to understand their requirements & problems
Review the rollup of key departmental commercial information on BO
(slow moving/fast moving, low margin/high margin, sales vs. trend of stores, high profit
builders/high volume builders, item analysis YTD (year to date) WTD (week to date) etc., itemwise
shrinkage and wastage analysis, etc.) with Merchandising Head, Dept. Head and
Operations Mangers Supermarket/ Store Managers and draw up action plans to mitigate risk
and achieve targets
Others
Communicate effectively internally as well as externally
Maintain a direct and positive working relationship with IT, stores, suppliers and vendors etc.
and leverage these relationship for business advantage
Ensure that all guidelines and SOP (standard operating procedures) are respected

Qualifications & Experience
High School degree required, Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field ideal
3-4 years related experience as a merchant, buyer, or associate buyer with a major retail outlet
whereof min. 2 years within the GCC region
Understanding of merchandising principles & stock management
Demonstrated track record of successfully growing a business by developing and executing
plans
Experienced in managing external supplier relationships & negotiating
