JD for Category Manager - Food (FMG & FF)

Job Purpose
 To select or develop the departmental product offer to meet the customer requirements and
be in line with the strategic direction of the business
 To deliver business buying and sourcing plan in line with the business strategy.
 To deliver a profitable and commercial range that maximizes every sales opportunity in the
area/store/region and meets targets.

Key Accountabilities:
Sales, Margin and Budgeting
 Develop and deliver on a annual business plan (ABP) in conjunction with DH (department
head)for each product line to achieve budgeted goals in revenue, sales, margin, and drive
execution of plan at category level
 Develop and deliver a “range” sales plan that meets agreed sales and margin targets
 Develop and Deliver for the category performances in terms of the sales targets, profit targets ,
stock turn targets etc
Buying and Sourcing
 Maintain a level of product expertise, ensuring product is bought within the acceptable
standard norms of quality and as per specs
 Responsible for assortment planning, range budgeting and planning , and buying products
with best commercial value( considering marketability , demand ,availability, quality,
packaging and standards etc ) and maintain the product , price/line and quality offerings as
a Hypermarket /supermarket player to drive sales
 Responsible for creating right merchandize structure as per family and sub family grouping
for optimizing sales etc and generate reports for review
Develop assortment plans and buying strategies at Supermarket/Department level based
on the catchments area analysis and deliver on the same
 Responsible for looking for “ways” for developing new avenues for promoting the Category
 Conduct initial product trial opportunities to maximize future sales and reduce risk
 Negotiate prices with suppliers and build contractual terms that will deliver on relevant
targets
 Co-ordinate IT for updated system price list ,new item creation and data clearing

New Store Openings
 Responsible for planning and delivering the merchandise @ New stores (catchments area,
demographic, lifestyle analysis, assortment/range plan, creating supplier base, planograms,
price list for new store, promotional plan etc.)

Stock Movement
 Ensure that the stocks are as per the requirements and demand to ensure fewer
markdowns
 Ensure proper receipt flow and inventory position on key/basic/must have/mandatory
range products and reacting to changes in demand
 Participate in regular reviews of budgets/ forecasts and plans for rationalizing of stock etc

Display, Standards and Compliance
 Create planograms and layout for sections as per customer buying habits with support of
the CMD to impact the sales for FMG & FF.
 Create “Guide Books “for design, layout and implementation for new products /produce
and initiatives for FMG & FF.
 Check display (all assortment are displayed )and display standards (labels -price/ product,
family/sub-family, hygiene, expiry dates, product quality etc ) and display as per the
planograms and coach section manager to achieve the same
 Drive standardization of recipes for product in for stock accuracy in fresh food specially
 Monitor wastage and log books periodically for( temperature – chiller , area cleanliness,
product quality etc) for FMG & FF specially and train the staff for the same
 Guide teams on FIFO and HACPP and ensure compliance in the sections
 Check stock area(FMG & FF) and storage area for(fresh food) arrangements/ hygiene /FIFO
standards and compliance along with product quality for specs in sections
 Follow hygiene audit and create action plans as per results to achieve the desired %age
 Ensure that all brand guidelines and SOP( standard operating procedures) are followed as
mentioned in policy manuals /dockets
 Ensure adherence to company health and safety policy at the department(s) level (e.g.
health check up/staff hygiene checks etc ) specially in Fresh food
 Optimize communication and build on relationship with Local Municipal authorities

Promotions
 Plan , decide and deliver on the yearly promotional calendar along with the DH /Operation
Manager Supermarket to optimize sales and reduce inventory risk
 Negotiate with suppliers for promotions to optimize space/floor returns and sales with support
of the DH /Stores
 Arrange for product catalogue shoots as per promotional calendar
 Plan adhoc promotions along with DH/ Operation Manager Supermarket to meet the sales
target , optimize the inventory /stock level Review Analysis and Feedback
 Review and Analyze feedback from stores on suppliers, system, price changes, promotions
and plan action in accordance to optimize sales
 Conduct weekly visits to stores
 Review the rollup of key departmental commercial information (slow moving/fast moving , low
margin/high margin, sales vs. trend of stores ,high profit builders / high volume builders , item
analysis YTD(year to date )WTD(week to date) etc , item wise shrinkage and wastage analysis
etc ) with Merchandising Head , DH and Operations Manger Supermarket and SM(store
manager/supermarket managers ) and draw up action plans to mitigate risk and achieve
targets

Others
 Communicate effectively to DH(department head ) / section managers/ supermarket managers
 Maintain a direct and positive working relationship with IT, stores ,suppliers and vendors etc
and leverage these relationship for business advantage
 Ensure that all brand guidelines and SOP( standard operating procedures) are followed as
mentioned in policy manuals /dockets
People and Development
 Meet and agree performance targets and have a personal development plan
 Ensure that personal behavior reflects the vision and values of the business
 Any other work assigned for business

Qualifications & Experience
 Bachelor's Degree in Merchandising, Business or a related field is required.
 Must have 8-10 years directly related experience as a merchant, buyer, or associate buyer with
an understanding of merchandising principles
 Experience in FMG & Fresh Food retail desired in GCC region
 Demonstrated track record of successfully growing a business by developing and executing
plans
 Experienced in managing external supplier relationships
