Sales, Margin and Profitability
Participate in creating the Annual Budget Plan(ABP) for the financial year for the department
Create of Budget Plan by month at product levels and forecast by month with support of the
section managers to achieve the ABP
Management of the Annual budgeted sales and margin targets for the department and Work
on planned goals (sales, gross margin, inventory ,turnover etc)
Work with the CMD team to formulate a detailed yearly plan on the products to be offered in
each section and agree/ provide input to CMD for price point strategy for product
/family/subfamily
Forecast sales and inventory and develop plans with CMD to maximize opportunities and
mitigate risk for the department /sections to achieve the ABP
Identify and communicate potential inventory liabilities at item level and drive appropriate
action to resolution
Ensure proper receipt flow and inventory position on key/basic/must have products and
reacting to changes in demand
Display, Hygiene Audits and Compliance
Create planograms for sections with support of the CMD to impact the sales
Monitor display and display standards (labels -product, family/sub-family, hygiene, expiry
dates, product quality etc ) regularly as per plannograms
Drive standardization of recipes for product in for stock accuracy in fresh food specially
Monitor wastage and log books periodically for( temperature – chiller , area cleanliness,
product quality etc) for Fresh food specially/FMG and train the staff for the same
Check stock area arrangement and storage is as per specs and guidelines in sections
Coach and guide section managers on FIFO principles of display and HACPP for sections and
stock area
Conduct Hygiene audit( internal) for the sections every month and support section managers
to create action plans to meet recommended target % age for external audit
Ensure adherence to company health and safety policy at the department /section level
Ensure that all brand guidelines and SOP( standard operating procedures) are followed as
mentioned in policy manuals /dockets
Optimize communication and build on relationship with Local Municipal authorities
Customer Service
Ensure that the team is well trained to understand customer needs ,assisting customers and
provide excellent service at all times
Suppliers and Ordering
Shortlist and evaluate suppliers with CMD
Determine and periodically book quantities of products to be ordered from suppliers to meet
launch & respond to variables and meet the rebate targets
Analyze and review delivery schedules to ensure that quantities of products available in
sections will generate target sales
Optimize communication and working relationship with Suppliers and CMD etc
Review and MIS
Review current sales daily and weekly and react appropriately to maximize every sales
opportunity
Analyze slow and fast movers , –ve turnover items, growth opportunities and down-trending
situations, shrinkage and wastage section wise and react and coach section managers for
resolution and improving sales, turnover/gross margin targets
Responsible for weekly/monthly review of performance against budget and last year
(LY,YTD,MTD, WTD ) of each section , including action Items with recommendations
Review the rollup of key departmental commercial information to the Store Manager and
resolve issues and conflicts
Develop MIS reports/metrics relating to analyzing & planning Department and section
performance
Assets and Maintenance
Monitor ‘Assets” standards for sections and guide teams to achieve the standards
Prepare and yearly assets budget with help of the section managers and approval of the SM
Co-ordinate with Maintenance team for assets up keep and repair with support of the section
managers
Promotion and Competition Analysis
Recommend sales promotion & margin strategy for the department and section to enhance
sales & profit of the Section/department
Ensuring that promotional activity is managed in line with marketing strategy as determined by
CMD
Coach Section manager to create promotions that feature popular products and perform ad
(leaflet ) performance analysis an recommend changes as per requirement
Coach section manager to set up special displays on items that are in demand @ moment
Maintain awareness of competition’s product offer by weekly competition price surveys and
react to price changes accordingly to achieve the target sales.
Drive standardization of recipes for product in section/supermarkets for stock accuracy
Stock Take
Conduct stock take and inventory level check every 15th and 30th of the month to ensure
minimization of wastage /shrinkage
People and Development
Design and implement a clear organizational design with Store Manager and HR which takes
account of workloads and staffing budget
Have clear job profiles and accountabilities and objectives for each role in the structure
whilst always identifying and implementing opportunities to drive operational efficiency
Optimize communication links to section manager , supervisor and selling teams with
weekly/fortnightly/monthly team briefs
Ensure performance benchmarks are known to all staff and conduct performance appraisals in
accordance
Organize capacity building workshop( customer service , specialized product etc ) with the
support of the Training team as and when required
Monitor Training ROI with the help of a section manager and provide feedback to the training
team on the same
Responsible for the Leadership ,motivation and development of the fresh food team
Meet and agree performance targets and have a personal development plan
Ensure that personal behavior reflects the vision and values of the business
Any other work assigned for business
